Overcoming Challenges

Hurricane Helene caused widespread destruction throughout Burke County, resulting in blocked roadways, downed trees, and extensive vegetative debris across public property. Local officials required immediate recovery assistance to remove hazards, restore safe access, and comply with environmental standards.
Formulating the Strategy
Excelous deployed a disaster response team to Burke County to assist with debris removal and site restoration. Responsibilities included:
- Vegetative Debris Removal: Clearing storm-related vegetation from rights-of-way and public spaces.
- C&D Waste Handling: Identifying and separating construction and demolition debris.
- Transportation: Hauling sorted debris to approved DMS/TDSRS locations.
- Final Site Cleanup: Ensuring roads and sidewalks were free of loose debris and safe for public use.
- Regulatory Compliance: Meeting local and state requirements for safety and environmental protection.




Results Achieved
- Cleared all major access roads in Burke County within the emergency recovery timeline.
- Disposed of tons of debris in compliance with North Carolina and FEMA standards.
- Helped the county prevent secondary risks related to fire hazards and impassable roads.
